Turtles!

Read this special iBook created by Grant and learn about turtles!

Turtles iBook (PDF format)

Grant was one of several first grade students who visited the Learning Commons to research a topic of their choice.  After researching and taking notes about turtles, Grant typed his book using the software application iBook Author on one of the MacBook Air laptops in the Learning Commons.  You can choose to open the file in iBooks on your iPad!

Roary's Picnic and Bingo Night

Join us Friday, April 26, 5:30-8:00 p.m. at New Providence for a picnic on school grounds, 5:30-7:00 p.m., followed by bingo in the cafeteria, 7:00-8:00 p.m.! You may pick your own meal or pre-order dinner from Zaxby’s. Look for order forms in your child’s bookbag. The Kona Ice Truck will be at the picnic as well, so bring a few extra dollars for shaved ice, alone with your camp chairs for outdoor games!

Phil Bildner Visits NPES!

Children’s book author, Phil Bildner, visited NPES today!  He is the author of a number of books for children and young adults.  His books are awesome for sports lovers (especially baseball fans) and history buffs.  Book titles include Shoeless Joe & Black Betsy, Magic in the Outfield, The Greatest Game Ever Played:  A Football Story, Twenty-One Elephants, Shot Heard Around the World, and more. Visit his website to discover more about Phil Bildner and his books.  Students in grades K-5 enjoyed listening to Mr. Bildner’s presentation about his books and his life as an author.  He also visited 3rd grade classrooms, had lunch with selected students, conducted a Writer’s Workshop with 4th grade students, and autographed books!  We appreciate this opportunity to meet and learn from a real-world author!

Spreadsheets!

Fifth graders in the Media Tech class are learning about spreadsheets!  A spreadsheet contains rows and columns and is used to record and compare data. They  opened a new spreadsheet using MS Excel, entered data, a formula, and then created a chart to help analyze their data.

It's Spring!

Spring Acrostic Poems
March 20, 2013 is the first day of spring!  This is the time of year when the sun crosses directly over the equator.  It is the Vernal Equinox.  Equinox means means “equal night.” Because the Sun is positioned above the equator, day and night are about equal in length all over the world!

Enjoy these spring acrostic poems!
