The deadline has been extended to Friday, October 12! The first Tuesday session will begin October 16 and the Thursday session will begin October 18!
We will no longer be sending paper copies of the monthly school newsletter or flyers in student bookbags. These items will now be sent electronically via your email address. It will also be posted on our website, www.lexington1.net/npes.
If you do not have access to email, and we will be sure that a hard copy is sent home with your child. If you do have email, please put the email address on the attached form where you would like newsletters and flyers sent. Please return this form to your child’s teacher.

NPES kindergarten students skyped with kindergarten students in Iowa! They shared their creative “dot” drawings! We are celebrating International Dot Day this week. Every year on September 15, innovative educators around the world celebrate International Dot Day by making time to encourage their students’ creativity. Third grade students participated in the O.R.E.O. Project 2012! They used the scientific method to discover how many Oreos® they could stack before the Oreos® tumbled!
Ms. Schumpert’s class stacked 28 Oreos! Schools all over the world can participate in the O.R.E.O. Project. Results from classrooms are averaged and posted on the O.R.E.O Project website.
The steps of the scientific method include:
- Ask a Question
- Do Background Research
- Construct a Hypothesis
- Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment
- Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion
- Communicate Your Result
September is National Library Card Sign Up Month!
If you don’t have a public library card, this month is a great time to go get one! They are FREE! We are keeping track of students and teachers with a public library card in the Learning Commons. If a class has 100% participation, they will earn a prize! You have ALL MONTH to show us your card!

Once a week, Emily, a therapy dog, and her owner, stop by the Park North Apartments in Lexington. “I think it’s just the comfort of having an animal close by to listen to the student who’s non-threatening,” said Van Bowers, the New Providence Elementary School principal. “The kids feel at ease. They’re not nervous about reading.”
